Football frenzy is here and with only a few short days until the Super Bowl, now is the time to dust off your homegating entertaining skills and embrace the love of the game, if only for an excuse to throw a party. Our London life offered few excuses for a Super Bowl party, but that never stopped us from hosting an annual American football game of our own — it never ceased to amaze me how everyone would roll up their sleeves and participate, even those who had never seen a game played before. The laughter and story telling that would arise around the tailgate were memories that we cherish to this day, leading us to continue our tradition as we build a new life in the US.
This weekend, shut off the game and bring your own version to life in a home tailgating party inspired by the tradition of the True Prep. Dust off your college sweaters, show off your best argyle socks and relive the game with a simple menu focused on simplicity, not fuss.
Finger foods make excellent tailgating additions, and wraps keep the preparation simple and the clean up to a minimum once the party is over. I wrapped mine in Prep inspired printables from Gwynn Wasson Designs to dress them up for game day.
Ingredients
- 12 Flour Tortillas
- 1 pound of deli sliced chicken breast
- 2 heads of romaine lettuce
- 1 English cucumber
- 1 Large red onion
- 1 finely grated garlic clove
- 6 tomatoes
- 12 Slices of crispy bacon
- 1 bundle of coriander
- 3 table spoons of olive oil
- Salt & Pepper
Instructions
- Finely grate the garlic clove and add it to a large mixing bowl with the olive oil, stirring to blend the two together.
- Chop up the lettuce, tomatoes, onion and cucumber before adding to the mixing bowl, blending the mixture until everything is covered in the garlic oil.
- Coarsely chop the cilantro and blend it into the mixture. Add salt and pepper to taste, adding more olive oil if needed.
- Warm your tortillas on a non-stick pan just long enough to make them soft, not cook them.
- Once warm add a few slices of chicken breast and a slice of crispy bacon to the top of the tortilla. Top with your salad mixture.
- Fold the wraps like you would a burrito and then wrap again in a wax paper to keep them fresh and serve within 24 hours.
